We all have something in common, no matter where we are on this spinning orb. Food. We all eat and use food to connect, nourish, celebrate and comfort. This is my journey connecting to the world and sharing those connections with all of you.
My story is complicated but all you need to know is that I am American by birth, Irish by ancestry and on a mission to devour life, because I am starved!
I believe that food is life, and the purest expression of love when prepared from the heart. I believe that wine is the elixer of the Gods and sorely underappreciated. I also believe that there is no single destination, only the journey with stops on the way.
I like animals more than people but I am not a vegan. I have an odd sense of balance which most don’t approve but if life has taught me anything as of late, it’s that it’s not worth wasting on the approval of others. Haters gonna hate. I believe in Karma. I also believe Karma subcontracts out, sometimes.

My Life with Food
I have always loved food. Who doesn’t? My humble beginnings began the same as with many children, mudpies in the garden. There was a little more to it than that, though.
Some of my earliest memories are of following my grandmother around in her garden as she selected the day’s vegetables and took care and explaining the importance of each. She gave me a deep understanding of the benefits of herbs and spices not only on a nutritional and medicinal level, but also on a spiritual one.
While my mother’s love for cooking was less traditional and more in-line with her modern lifestyle, she was a magical cook in her own right.
After the passing of my grandmother, my aunt took up the mantle of continuing my botanical and culinary education. Decades later, I enrolled in culinary school for formal training and studied traditional Western nutritional cannon. From there, I trained in Wine to expand the depth appreciation and knowledge of grape.
After most of my life was dedicated to home and family, the loss of my mother changed me in profound ways. After a prolonged disconnection to the Earth, I found a new sense of balance and decided on a new path, to explore life and share my experiences with whoever wanted to listen.
The path I follow is an old one, hewn by the footsteps of wild and wise souls throughout millenia. Ancient wisdom and modern sensibilities intertwined with patience, hefty boundries and a whopping dollop of sarcasm. I am definately an aquired taste.
Some would say this is my midlife crisis despite my feeling like I am still a kid. People can say what they like. It’s my own opinion that matters now. I intend on eating the rest of my life up with a ravenous passion, and Gods help anyone that stands in my way.
Sláinte,
Izzy
